Overview
The Walla Walla River Irrigation District(WWRID), located in Milton Freewater OR, delivers surface irrigation water from the Walla Walla River down approximately 29 miles of canals and natural waterways to supply irrigation water to 3400 acres of premium farming ground. WWRID is the custodian/steward of some of the most senior water rights in our basin. The farms that we supply water to grow apples, cherries, plums, prunes, peaches, wine grapes, pasture, alfalfa and wheat. We serve approximately 650 different water right certificates.
Description
WWRID is seeking to employ an experienced, self-motivated individual as the District Manager. The District Manager(DM) oversees all aspects of water delivery and waterway maintenance. Our typical irrigation season begins 1Mar and concludes 15Nov. Waterway maintenance is performed in the off season but while still running minimum flows for the natural stream designation of certain branches of the WWRID system. The DM will oversee one (1) Waterway Supervisor for their daily tasks. The DM will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the District to include administration, payroll, policy, public relations, water metering and reporting, regulation, water law, district protocol and by-law implementation. The DM serves at the pleasure of a 5-member Board of Directors to complete their desired work tasks and direction. The DM position is a full-time, salaried position. Weekly hourly requirements will vary due to seasonal demands.
Qualifications and Skills Required/Preferred
- High School diploma and 2 year Degree required
- 4 Year Degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in management in irrigated ag related field to include administration duties with employees
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in water measurement and delivery
- Maintains logs and records, as required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficient in Quickbooks Desktop and Online Versions
- Excellent grammar, verbal/written communication and customer service skills
- Must be able to demonstrate operational proficiency in/on back-hoe, mini-excavator and pickup with trailer.
- Preference will be given to those candidates possessing general knowledge of federal/state/tribal and local water policy.
- Preference will be given to those candidates possessing intimate knowledge of WWRID’s systems and workings
- Preference will be given to those candidates who reside within the District boundaries or are willing to relocate within District boundaries or immediate area.
- Candidates will need to possess an Oregon or Washington State Driver’s License and be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. Random drug tests are also administered during
