Assistant Director, OSU Center for Family Enterprise
The College of Business is seeking an Assistant Director, OSU Center for Family Enterprise. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
This position will manage the day-to-day operations of the Center for Family Enterprise. The Center, established as the Austin Family Business Program in 1985, is a key component of the College’s outreach mission, and aspires to be the go-to resource for all family-owned businesses and the advisors that support their success, in Oregon and the region.
The Assistant Director will report to the Operations Director of the Center, who is a member of the College of Business Advancement team. The Assistant Director is responsible for implementation of strategies that support the goals of the Center and fit within the mission of the College of Business and the University. Priorities of the Assistant Director will include such things as: coordination of professional education, coordination and hosting of educational events and workshops, and management of the annual family enterprise awards. The Assistant Director will be responsible for budget and evaluation of each project. This position is a key member of the College’s Advancement team which has the goals of:
1. Serve as a lifelong education provider to our community of external partners (alumni, donors, companies, agencies) in support of their professional development and advancement.
2. Provide opportunities for meaningful collaboration between external partners and the College.
3. Inspire our external partners to invest (time, money, talent) in the College to advance our mission.

Position Duties

60% – Project Management:
Manage, develop and execute programs targeting Centers’ constituents’ (i.e. Family owned businesses and professional advisors) interests. Identify program objectives, budget and administrative requirements as well as integration/support of overall goals and mission. Develop evaluation systems for outcome measurement and benchmarks; and modify, develop or newly create programs to improve services, support, and programming for the Centers’ constituents. Examples of programs may include workshops, webinars, continuing education programs, awards programs, etc.
15% – Relationship Management:
Build and maintain relationships with business owners, families, advisors and key external stakeholders. Includes reaching out to meet these people in a variety of educational, business, and community forums. Involves travel, regularly within the region and occasionally beyond.
15% – Day to Day Center Operations:
Manage the day-to-day operations of external relations and programming for the OSU Center for Family Enterprise. Plan, develop, and oversee events, publications, and projects of the Center overall. Serve as a resident expert at OSU on family business, responsible for identifying key issues and developing means to address those issues. Support for this role includes marketing and event logistics within the Advancement team.
10% – Budget and Data Management:
Manages the program budget and provides reports to inform of fiscal needs and results. Track and monitor data, including data focused on both relationships and budgets. Track relationships, communication and engagement via relationship management software, listservs, etc. Prepare and present a variety of quarterly and annual reports and documents of activities to demonstrate progress toward metrics.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or other relevant field.
Five years of professional experience designing, organizing, implementing and managing programs.
Strong skills in the following areas: professional oral and written communication, public speaking, and spreadsheet and database management.
Experience and professionalism working with organizational stakeholders; commitment to excellent customer service.
Event experience, in planning and coordinating or delivering.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in working with family-owned businesses with a clear understanding of the nuances of family business situations.
Ability and experience to successfully deliver conduct seminars and workshops.
An advanced degree, master’s or doctorate.
